On Monday, the Los Angeles Clippers will face the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Aside from the fact that this is the first real test of the Paul George-Kawhi Leonard tandem, there is also an interesting subplot. Clippers head coach Doc Rivers will take on his new son-in-law Seth Curry.
Curry married Rivers' daughter Callie last September and when asked who his daughter will put down roots for in the first round of the playoffs, the 58-year-old reacted ridiculously.
"I don't think she cares, but I'm not so sure," said Rivers, according to Mirjam Swanson of the Orange County Register (h / t larrybrownsports.com). “We talk every day, my daughter and I and Seth. So it will be interesting. I told her to put it this way – the family should be together, and the best way to do this is for us (the Clippers) to win. "
Obviously, Callie is in an unenviable place. And as Doc puts it, if the Clippers eliminate the Mavs early, it just means Curry is on his way home to join her and her 2 year old daughter, Carter. If you look at it that way, getting out of the first round would be a win-win for the Curry family for Dallas. I'm pretty sure Seth would have a different opinion on this.
The tip between the clippers with the second seed and the mavericks with the seventh seed will be at 9:30 pm tomorrow. It will be an interesting couple of days in the Rivers household.
